The crystal crackled and sputtered in her hands as she poured her considerable magic into it, causing the ground around her to tremble with the power...but soon enough it calmed, and nothing had happened. She had assumed as much might happen...a focal point was needed, and the crystal alone couldn't do it. It needed something stronger, something more powerful...and that was when she thought of the perfect spot. And the best part was, almost nobody was ever there. With a wicked smile adorning her face, she gestured over to Shanty. "Attend me, Shanty; I may have need of your particular brand of persuasion if we run into trouble."

A dark, guttural chuckle came forth from the slightly heavyset man, as he drew a large cutlass glittering with magical enchantments. "As yer wish, m'lady. Ah live ter serve, yer know...'specially when it mean gettin' ter 'ave a little fun with ol' Sharkbite 'ere." His tone was affectionate as he patted the flat of the blade along one shoulder for emphasis. A wave of her hands and with the chanting of the words of power, a red moongate opened up, and the duo passed through to their destination.

High Council Passes Sixth Constitution! Governor Changes Ratified!

Submitted by Vivian_Fellows on October 26, 2013 at 1:06 AM CDT
GL High Council

The 421st meeting of the High Council of Britannia ended with the adoption of the Sixth Constitution of the Kingdom of Britannia. Among the major changes: The elected Governors of the cities of Virtue and Vesper will now have the right to sit upon the Council or appoint a representative, the Chancellor will now have another cabinet member for defense and be able to issue short term decrees, and the Grand Marshal will now be a Council appointed position as needed in times of war or crisis.

While this reporter has seen that many changes to the Council in the past have often proved contentious, the constitutional congress held the previous Saturday before the Council meeting was a civil and productive affair. The new constitution was drafted by Justicar Max von Bayer. He produced it with generous help from the following: Justicar Tanda Knighthawke, Chancellor DaKaren, Councilor Neptune, and Grand Marshal Polynikes. With their consent, a final version was put forth before the Council for a vote.

The votes as follows:

Lady Pab II, Representative of Yew and Justice - Aye
Lord Neptune, Representative of Skara Brae and Spirituality - Aye
Lord Kivlov, Representative of Newcastle and Redemption - Aye
Lord Malag-aste, Minister of Foreign Affairs - Aye

With no dissenting votes, the passing was unanimous. With no objection, the Chancellor moved to swear in the attending governors, Walter Tyrell of Moonglow and Dot Warner of Britain. Alista Laleyan of Jhelom is currently hoping to include another and appoint a representative. Any citizens that thinks they might be interested in doing so are encouraged to contact her. Governor Willa of Yew noted that she had already sent Pab II to the Council as her representative before the changes and would continue to have Pab II serve as representative.  The new constitution shall be posted soon to the High Council information board that is maintained by the Tribune.

On a sad note, after the meeting, High Justicar Ra'Dian Fl'Gith, also Governor of Trinsic, said he would be stepping down and Justicar Tanda Knighthawke would now be serving as High Justicar. This is of course following proper procedure. As per the Court Charter, the longest consecutive serving Justicar becomes the High Justicar. Because the Lady Knighthawke could not attend the meeting, the swearing in and official process shall have to wait for a later date. This reporter, however, is saddened by the loss of one of the most stalwart members of the Council for many ages (those elves!). I am sure that we will see interesting things from Trinsic and Dracona now that his focus is there.

I look forward to seeing what more comes from the Council now that they have added the governors to it's inclusion. This should be for the benefit of all, as both Governor Tyrell and Governor Dot Warner just finished successfully hosting the Harvest Festival Costume Party and Drop House along with Governor Willa.

From the desk of Countess Dot Warner, Governor of Britain:

Citizens of Britain,
Grizelda has declined my request for assistance with our undead problem and has chosen to view our plight as a source of entertainment.

Image

Her response to my entreaty is the runic scratch above, it reads:

Warner-

Neighbors, BAH! You city folk with yer constant yammering and flashy fashions don’t concern me!

Although…you must have done something delightfully horrific to bring a curse of undead upon your heads. I’ll have to retune my crystal ball so I can enjoy watching Britain scrabble around with the undead. Perhaps with a nice bowl of newt crisps…

You’d best get to finding yourself a another sensitive.

-Grizelda
p.s. Keep your damn citizens outta my house!

Governor Willa of Yew suggested asking for the assistance of Inu of Makoto-jima. Fortunately, she has graciously consented to aid Britain.

I ask that all interested parties gather at my office in Britain, just east of the Northern Bridge (just SE of Castle Blackthorn at 8o 36’N 17o 55’ E) on Friday, October 25th at 8pm CST. We will be traveling to Moonglow and then on to parts unknown.

(OOC: This will be the conclusion to Britain’s part of the multi-city Halloween event. Come prepared for battle. There are prizes to be had.)

I am saddened to report that the undead menace in Britain has claimed the lives of two young nobles strolling along Moat street near the Cat’s Lair. To aid in determining the cause of our haunting, I have sent a letter to Grizelda asking for her assistance in the matter.

I will keep the citizenry posted on the matter. Please continue to report criminal acts to Sherriff Luther.

Great Lakes Primer for the Royal Council

Thanks to EM Bennu for his Atlantic Primer, on which this is based.

There seem to be misconceptions about the purpose and powers of the Royal Council on Great Lakes. This is a general outline of what to expect, as well as what is expected.

#1: The role of governor is an in character (”IC”) position. That means if you are a governor, you are expected to role-play the position and act as you would if your character were governor.

Citizens are encouraged to attend Royal Council meetings. It is asked that they remain in character as well.

Anything you say to the King is said to the King, and the King will answer, act, and respond as King Blackthorn would and should. If you say something to the King out-of-character (”OOC”), the King will ignore you.

Walking through the den brusquely, the scarf covering his face flapped slightly in the ocean breeze. Despite his vocation he'd never been a fan of the Den...far too tempting for some of it's denizens to pull a dagger on someone without bothering to know they shouldn't...and while he could handle himself, he wasn't in the mood. Something of his manner must have put out that aura though, because he remained unmolested as he made his way into the tavern, and pushed the door open roughly. The loud noise and carousing ceased for a moment as all eyes turned to the door, but with only a moments glance all of them returned to what they were doing...save for one man, grinning at him through a face full of rotten teeth.

From the 420th meeting of the High Council of Britannia, a constitutional congress has been set to meet on Saturday, October 19th at 8 PM CST at the Jerred Ghyss Civic Center in Compassion Grove (12o 24'N 37o 58'W). Citizens are encouraged to show up to provide their thoughts in an orderly fashion upon proposed changes to the constitution of the High Council. A vote may follow at the next High Council meeting on Monday, October 21st.

The constitutional congress will cover proposed changes to allow city governors to represent or appoint a representative for their city on the  High Council.

Also, from Max von Bayer:

I have submitted my effort to reform the High Council of Britannia with a sixth version of the constitution. My goal is to seek its ratification and I hope others will feel free to express their thoughts on my proposed changes. The document can be found in the forum for the High Council.

Thank you!

It took him a minute to spot her in the crowded tavern, but as soon as he did it brought a smile to his face, and he joined her at the table. "Hey...looks like you got here a bit faster. I could only get anything useful out of a few...and even that wasn't too much since most weren't interested in talking at all. It seems that no boats departed from Papua at all, and nobody should've been able to utilize the Serpent's Pillar at the time we came across the wreck. I've also heard word that it's not the first unexplained wreck...there's apparently droves of them in places where a ship was never even sighted. Unfortunately, we can't find any information on the inhabitants...and the one I saved still isn't awake." Running his fingers through his hair, Isaiah exhaled exasperatedly. "How did your search turn out?"
