If you would like to discover which Virtue you value most, go to the Britain-Yew crossroads, 27° 9′S, 21° 56′W. The crystal ball there will give you a book.

Walk along the road from Britain to Yew, speaking to the monks along the way. You can catch a monk’s attention by saying his or her name. Repeat the last word of a monk’s sentence to see if they have anything more to tell you. Avoid the brigand camp and other dangers. Each monk will ask you a question that has two possible, equally correct, answers. The keywords of the answers will appear in parentheses. Write the keyword of the answer you prefer in the book, next to the monk’s name.

There is a gate near the last monk, Abbotess Serena. Go through the gate and leave your book in the mailbox there. This quest can be completed anytime until Tuesday, December 3rd, at 11:59 p.m. A list of which virtue each person chose will be in the Award Hall before the new year.

Letter From the Former Governor of Vesper

Submitted by Vivian_Fellows on November 25, 2013 at 5:45 PM CST
City of Vesper

From the desk of the Marquis of Vesper, Matthias O'Hare:

To my fellow citizens of Vesper, as well as fellow Britannians,

I perhaps should have written this letter for all to see rather than upon the Vesper bulletin board on the side of the bank before my departure.

My resignation comes with a heavy heart, but I can no longer support the Council in it's current form. With the latest Voting Act, the King and his advisers have sought to take away the votes of 85% of the loyal citizenry of the Kingdom of Britannia.

There was no investigation into me or my family. The O'Hare family has a long history of service to the Kingdom in the region. There were no accusations of corruption nor were any illegal taxes proposed upon the general populace of the city.

The statements brought before the Council by Magnus Grey were withdrawn. It is not like any of us have ever been confused and I hope all can sympathize with an old war horse such as him. Many years of having his head pounded upon during the run of battle should give him a pass once in a while.

I have worked diligently over the past three months to provide as much of the funding for the trade deals as needed. If I could, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge NightStriker for providing a very generous amount of the donations.

But it was also about more than just donations. When the campaign started for the Second Council of the King, I remember the challenge being issued by one of the candidates, Thorreain of New Magincia. He challenged all of us to do more in order to invigorate the cities. I have no illusions that we still have a far way to go, but I believe we have taken the step in the direction of answering the challenge.

Much has been accomplished this term: the Halloween Costume Contest & Loot House Drop, the Bone Drop Houses in Moonglow and Britain, the Haunting of Britain Quest, the Harvest Festival, champ spawns organized by Minoc, and the defense of the cities organized by Yew. All of this has been organized and carried out by your current batch of Governors.

While my resignation means I will not be seeking election to the Third Council of the King, I hope that all of you will consider voting for your incumbents if they choose to run again. They are a great group and are eager to continue creating more events and expanding the citizenry of Britannia.

May the Virtues be with you,
Matthias O'Hare
Marquis of Vesper

"You don't actually think this is going to work, do you?" Anon scoffed at King Blackthorn's suggestion.

"Well if you don't think you have the ability to do it, I guess you can continue to be known as the second best mage of the realm..."

Anon slammed a hand down on the table, causing Dupre to give him a glare from his seat. "I still am afraid I don't understand...why are we not simply destroying the source of these?"

"Because we cannot without condemning untold numbers of lives. Anon and I have come to the conclusion that Minax used the shard of the gem of immortality she'd stolen to open up tears in the Ether to another world...a Sosaria conquered by brigands and outlaws. To destroy the connection might destroy one or both of the worlds. Instead...Anon came up with a plan that's somewhat similar to what Nystul once did..."

"It's completely different! We aren't destroying an entire way of life and the source of our strength!"

The King raised his hand and Anon reluctantly went quiet. "Alright. We can cast the spell, but we're going to have to be uninterrupted...and unfortunately, Minax and this...Shanty you told us of will be on the watch now. Anon is the only one of us who can cast it...and I'll need to assist him."

"Shanty's enchanted blade is powerful...it's one of those ancient blades that we'd thought were all lost. I don't have anything that can stand up to it."

The King pulled on a bellpull and Heckles entered, with an object wrapped in cloth. "It took some time, but I was able to find an object in my collection that may be able to help you against him, Sir Dupre."

As Heckles approached, he unwrapped it and held the sheathed blade out to Sir Dupre, and he drew it...to show a brilliantly gleaming black longsword, with magical runes engraved along it's length. The balance was impeccable, and it felt as if it had the perfect weight...He gave a small swing of it's blade, and saw the same motes of magical energy as Shanty's Sharkbite had cast. In a deft motion he sheathed it perfectly, and gave the King a nod.

"Then let us do this for the realm...and for Minax's defeat."

To the Citizens of Yew...

Submitted by Martyna_Zmuir on November 20, 2013 at 4:00 AM CST
City of Yew

From the desk of Duchess Willa of the Yew-wood, Governor of Yew:

Dearest Citizens of Yew,

I am afraid our proposals to the King have been denied. So we must continue to use the overland roads and risk attacks from the Slavers and highwaymen to deliver goods to other cities and our hopes of shipping direct from Yew to the islands of Jhelom, Moonglow and Nujel'm will not be possible as our bid to get a Dock has been denied. So to our beloved Crafters, Tradesmen and Farmers please be assured that we will continue to make a plea for your cause in the future perhaps after the Invasions.

To our Beloved Monks at the Abbey, the bid to get a Tavern-like area above the Winery has also been denied. Sorry to say that your proposal to holding wine tastings and celebrations upon the roof of the Winery will not be possible. Perhaps you can find room inside the Abbey to hold them, or at another building nearby.

Most important of all I am very saddened to say that continued Patrols to the Yew Far Farms will no longer be possible. With the current invasions our Militia is now on high alert and simply can no longer spare the time or men to run all the way around the bay to the Farms located there. So it is with very heavy heart that I must ask that all citizens living on the other side of the bay please either move to the Abbey temporarily as that is under our guard protection, or I hate to say you will need to hire your own guards as we simply do not have the resources available to help you currently and the Kings Builders have denied the requested addition of a bridge or teleport to your homesteads there. With the invasions of the city proper I just don’t feel we can spare the manpower to patrol all the way out across the bay. I certainly hope you understand. The Monks of the Abbey have assured me that they have extra beds available for those Citizens who wish to move closer to town until regular patrols can be resumed.
Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely Yours,
Lady Willa of the Yew-wood, Governor of Yew

His blade clashed against that of the renegade swordsman, each strike forcing him back pace after pace, never ceasing in his advance. As the swordsman caught one of Sir Dupre's strikes on his shield, Sir Dupre lashed out with his own shield and struck him hard in the face, feeling the mans nose break before the impact. Helmets are worn for a reason, novice... he thought to himself as he disengaged his blade, stamped on the man's foot, and ran him through. With a sudden jerking back of his sword he let him fall, staining the dusty sandstone vermilion beneath him. He could hear the crack and power of explosion potions being hurled at the lighthouse, but he heard shouts come up from his knights, even as a breathless squire ran to him.

"Sir Dupre, we need you! We've got a problem!"

Fundraiser for Minoc

City of Minoc

From the desk of John Knighthawke:

Fund raiser for the City of Minoc, this Wednesday, November 20, at 8pm Central/9pm Eastern. Hosted by John Knighthawke, husband of Governor Tanda Knighthawke. Governor Tanda herself may or may not be there, due to her ongoing illness.

Meet at the Minoc Moongate -- not in the city itself because of the possibility of invasion.

Take a rest from fighting the invasion and help the City of Minoc raise money for our trade deal.

The fund raiser will consist of at least two raids on the Champ Spawn altar near the Humility Moongate in Ilshenar.

We will do at least two complete champion spawns, and we ask that you allow either Governor Tanda, her husband John Knighthawke (myself), or another representative of the city to collect all the gold at the end, to help to fund Minoc's trade deal.

Knight of Minoc and Newcastle

The city had been a nicer place once. It had been busier, filled with bustling life and mages learning and earning their keep amidst masters and grandmasters. But that was many years ago, he reminded himself...and despite the ferocity of those remaining in these lands, so many had already moved on to calmer waters. He'd been warned against going at all by his Royal Guard, with them finally relenting when he agreed to take two with him as protection, but he told them as simply as he understood it himself; If he found who he was looking for and they were intractable, a regiment would likely not be enough.

The gates of wrought iron still stood, and though there were traces of rust, it was no worse off than the rest of the great city. As he passed through, more foreboding signs abounded...there were bodies amidst the streets, and he shook his head...most of them inhuman, monstrous things that should have been in the dungeons of the lands instead of the streets of a city steeped in history. Cracks of lightning and the pull of bowstring could be heard from various directions, but it was when the entire sky seemed to open up with a continuous peal of thundering roars that he knew where he wanted to go.

  • Town Social - Each governor, or their representative(s), will have a booth for half-an-hour. The governor may use that time to persuade people to join the town; to sell or give away food, drinks, or other inexpensive souvenirs; or to do magic tricks, fortune telling, etc.
  • Tasty Treats Display & Auction – A skilled chef can decorate cakes, cookies, and pizzas. From now until two hours before the faire, players are invited to donate decorated delectables. The treats will be put on display during the faire. They will then be auctioned off by a capricious auctioneer, who does not care for gold, but will accept interesting assortments* of gems and granite. If you would like your dessert/pizza put on display but not auctioned, please put it in a bag with a rune to your mailbox.
  • Buttercup Relay Race – Teams of three will compete.
  • Maple Syrup Scavenger Hunt – You may search individually or as part of a group.

*Bid nominal quantities, please. The auctioneer will take whatever bid suits his fancy, rather than the highest bid.
