From the desk of Melian, CEO of Events Majestic Oaks Auction:

Majestic Oaks Auction held its annual celebration in our little pixel escape on December 18th. The event began with our traditional thanks to all who bring their patronage and support to our volunteer events over the year/s. Then it was time for a group photo, also a tradition.

Merry Christmas UO!

With the pleasantries done we turned to the purpose of this gathering, to give some things away and have fun. The evening began with a trivia question regarding the Rams/Cardinals football game the week before, the gold & question requested by Sir Thomas the prior week. Bella won this 2 million gold. The second question of the night worth 5 million gold went to Governor Dot Warner (as I recall something about Star Trek).

The auction began, a much abbreviated version as there was a lot of ground to cover on the giveaway end. The first item of the night was won by Bucketman, second item was a no sale (it happens). Next came two more 5 million gold Trivia questions first won by Bella and the second by Jabberwocky.

“The 12 Days of Christmas” give away was intermingled in the auction. Beginning with day 12, which was won by Angry Jamaican of GOF with the lucky ticket of DJ58 (12 Soulstone Fragments).

Sugar Plum Toy Drive

Sugar Plum Toy DriveOriginally posted December 17th, 2014 by EM Elizabella on the Great Lakes EM Site:

His Majesty King Blackthorn had intended to give out toys to the children of Paws. Unfortunately, Speedy Wings Delivery Service has been having difficulty meeting their delivery deadlines this holiday season. There are supply problems as well as the usual hiccups in getting post through Ilshenar.

If you would like to help make this Walrus Festival season merry and bright for the children of Paws, please speak to the royal secretary, Easton, at Castle Blackthorn. The toys you find can be donated at the mailbox.

The toy drive ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on Monday, December 22nd.

For members of the Royal Spies or Royal Guard, this counts a training in Community Awareness. Donating one toy will be treated as though you had attended one Tuesday event. Donating all four toys will be treated as though you had attended two Tuesday events.

  • There is a rune to Paws in the runebook in the mailbox house.
  • All the toys are timered.
  • The toy boxes will only give one toy per character, so please insure it quickly (or try not to die).
  • Questions can be sent to one or both of us.

Grant of Arms

Submitted by Martyna_Zmuir on December 8, 2014 at 11:51 AM CST

Originally posted December 7th, 2014 by an EM on the Great Lakes EM Site:

A Coat of Arms has been granted to Miss Sally Madeleine Sweet. The design of the Arms was approved by Lord Featherstonehaugh, Wyvern King of Arms and Senior Herald in Britannia.

The Grant of Arms has been made to Miss Sweet and her descendants in accordance with the laws of Arms. Like all applicants, Miss Sweet began the process by submitting a petition to Britannia’s Earl Marshal, Lord Hotchkiss. The Britannian College of Heraldry duly carried out research in their records and archives. Miss Sweet presented various engraved items from the ancient armigerous De Swete family, whose line was long thought to be extinct. There is no evidence to show that Miss Sweet is not descended from them. Lord Hotchkiss then issued a warrant to the Wyvern King of Arms recommending the granting of new Arms.

Sweet Coat of Arms

Arms: Gules a chief of the sea proper wheat garb Or.
Motto: Capere Aurum

The canting Arms form a rebus (“sea wheat”) for Sweet. The rebus is from the original De Swete Coat of Arms. The appearance of the sea is doubly appropriate for the armorial bearings of Miss Sweet, who describes herself as a sailing enthusiast.

Miss Sweet has chosen the tincture of the field herself. It is in honor of her late mentor. Miss Sweet also chose the motto, “Capere Aurum” (To Seize Gold). It is an aphorism of her own invention. It reflects her personal philosophy that one must strive to seize every opportunity the golden dawn of each new day brings.

Sweet Lozenge (spinster)

Miss Sweet’s armorial bearings are also displayed on a lozenge, as is traditional for a woman who is not the sovereign. The lozenge is surmounted by a true lover’s knot of blue ribbon, to indicate that she has never been married.

The artwork for the official record of the Grant of Arms was personally painted by Lady Clara Featherstonehaugh.

A Yuletide Journey

A Thank You to the Citizens of Minoc

Submitted by Martyna_Zmuir on December 3, 2014 at 9:50 PM CST
City of Minoc

From the desk of Tanda Knighthawke, Governor of Minoc:

Election season is upon us! I’d like to encourage all eligible persons age 14 and up who have voting rights to come out stretch your legs, cast a vote and hoist a pint! Huzzah!

I have been your Governor for a long while now, since the King began this endeavor, I have seen it grow, witnessed many accomplishments, though there is still much to be done. As a resident of Minoc, with family ties to the area I would ask all who approve of my work to help me continue. Voting should begin December 8th the eve of the Governor’s Yule event!

I’d like to also thank the laborers and business of the Minoc’s Matewan for their donations of food and drink to gift to those who are in need! I have been doing my best to get it into the hands of those who need it!

Thank you!
Tanda Knighthawke,
Governor of Minoc
