Spring must be in the air even if outdoors it can't make up it's mind. Spring cleaning must be in the air judging by the older items which are making into the auction house.

3.27.14 was a crazy night, wrapping up March's auction action. We saw a Lavaliere necklace, Skull mug, Rift Pillar, 120 Fishing Scroll, Mesanna Glacial Rose, assorted house deco, Minax pieces, footwear, race change tokens and get this a HUMAN Trophy yuck! What they won't think of next. Any how, total receipts for the night were *drum roll* 384,875,000 gold crowns. Not to bad for a couple hours on a gray march evening.

Top Bidders were Vashadra and Shadius!! With many many more in on the action. The night's trivia winners were Alice (2), Ra'Dian Fl'Gith (2), Dot Warner and Xevei. Always good to see Xevei in the house!

Next week we have a Great Lakes Trammel Yew Keep up for auction. Broker is still out on what else is going out the door. There will be trivia as always.

See you April 3, 2014 8 p.m. CST (that's 9 for all you east coasters)

Teams of two are invited to participate in Forge Wars! Meet behind the Award Hall on Saturday, March 29th at 8:00 p.m. CDT.

Forge Wars

  • This event is for teams of two.
  • Each team must have GM or better blacksmithy and mining. These two skills may be on separate players, though, of course, it is better to have both skills on one person.
  • The first half-hour will be for registration. Please bring a book with the team members' names on the first page, blacksmith first.
  • All participants must be naked, except for jewelry.
  • You may bring one weapon of your choice, which must be equipped rather than in your backpack.
  • All participants must have empty backpacks, except for spellbooks (magery, paladin, necromancy, spellweaving, samurai, ninja, and/or mystic). Try to keep this limited to what you'll actually need, since we'll have to check them.
  • Participants are not permitted to bring or summon pets. However, you may cast EVs, demons, vampire bats, etc.
  • Participants are not permitted to use mounts (including ethereals).
  • The blacksmith will be given smith hammers. Please do not bring special or expensive hammers of your own.
  • The fighter will be given bandages.
  • Upon request, reagents, necro reagents, arrows, and/or bolts will be provided to those who plan to use the related skills.

Two teams will compete against each other at a time, with the winning team moving on to the next round.

Each team will be brought into the enclosed area and elementals will appear. One teammate will fight the elemental and gather the ore from the corpse. S/he will bring the ore to the blacksmith. Whichever of them has mining skill will smelt it down. When the fighter enters the smithing enclosure, a new elemental will spawn in the fighting area.

The blacksmith will craft a suit of platemail. The platemail does not need to be exceptional. When the suit is completed, the blacksmith will say "DONE" in chat. An EM will go to the blacksmith, who must then give the completed platemail suit to the EM.

Thanks to EM Crysania for advice on this event.

Hello all! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Francios DuMont and I hail from the city of Britain. I moved to the city with my parents from Magincia (before the city was destroyed) at a very young age. In Britain, I found myself obsessed with the world of print. News has become both my occupation and hobby. I am happy to say I have now found my dream job.

I will now be covering general stories in the realm. Hopefully, I can help alleviate Martyna and Vivian so that the two can get back to mostly focusing on library and political topics. Mostly, I want to help spread the news about the fight nights that will be happening. My goal is to provide pictures of some of the most intense tournament fights and write of their epic clashes.

In time, I hope you will enjoy the articles I provide. I wish all of you a happy day!

From the Desk of Melian CEO of Events Majestic Oaks Auction

It was clear to see that the Leprechauns had been busy, the building was full of green color and piles of gold, scattered checks. The house was packed, it's amazing the allure of some truly tasty rares can do.

The bidding on a few items was fast and furious The Chicken Blood did well drawing attention from many bidders. With an opening price of 65 mil the item went back and forth until finally the winning bid of 195,000,000 gold landed Fat Kids LaG IRL a trophy display in their collection (or whatever they wish to do with it)

The biggest attention getter was the Mesanna Lantern from Lake Austin I believe. It too drew heavy bidding from many people, in the end our own Great Lakes Hearts Desire won out with a bid of 200,000,000.

The final big ticket winner was a Spittoon which after some disappointment over it's opening price came back with a lower open and sold to Rathgar for 125,000,000.

Large crowds and bidding wars do tend to drive the patrons into a frenzy we saw great bids on an Ethereal mount, a set of Tokuno Major dyes, some old nostalgic items worth many turn in points.

Thank you to all who attended! It was a great time for patrons and staff alike.
A special thanks to all who followed the posts on stratics and came from far and wide for a chance to bid!! Majestic Oaks is happy to see some of you back on Great Lakes even briefly.

Next auction will be Thursday March 20th 8 p.m. CST.

Minoc Attacked by Hythloth Conclave!

Submitted by Martyna_Zmuir on March 5, 2014 at 10:03 PM CST
Library of Sosaria

Late last night, citizens of Minoc found themselves under siege by warriors of the Hythloth Conclave who had tunneled under their city with the intent to prepare it for invasion by daemonic forces. These daemons, or sappers as they are called, were to weaken Minoc's infrastructure and create a means of ingress behind defensive lines.

Fortunately for Minoc, agents of the Crown caught wind of this plot and were able to thwart the invasion before it could begin in earnest. The sappers broke through to the surface and encountered a withering barrage of swords, spells and hungry dragons. The daemon's tunnels were quickly traced to the mines of Mt. Kendal to the east across the Glimmering River where their leader was lured to its death.

Minoc Attacked by Hythloth Conclave!

Governor Tanda Knighthawke of Minoc released the following statement:

Governor Tanda Knighthawke"My feelings toward all beings tend to be ones of individual evaluation as opposed to generalized guilt by birth or association. However, after last night, I better understand Minoc's past hatred of all magical beings and corruptions of nature. That's saying a lot coming from a witch. While I suppress the anger over the attack on my home, and I fear for the safety of its citizens, I must try to remain focused on the guiding direction the virtue of Sacrifice offers. We as a people, strong in our work ethics, trades, and families must unite for the good of all. Be steadfast my friends in your loyalty to family, friends, and city. Watch over each other, while resisting the urge withdraw in fear.

As Governor, I would personally like to thank everyone who came to the aid of Minoc in a moment of great need. Minoc stands at the ready. My commitment to this great city is unwavering. I greatly appreciate: my husband John for all his efforts on our behalf, all those who stand with the Britannian Armed Forces and everyone else whether you drew your sword or cast a spell in our defense, even if your motive was not to aid Minoc. Huzzah! Strength and Honor!"

This marks the fourth time in recent weeks that the Hythloth Conclave, now under the rule of a balron named Balinor, has sought to seize Britannian holdings. After several years of peace with Britannia after the defeat of Virtuebane, the Conclave unsuccessfully attacked both Serpent's Hold and the underworld colony of Ariel Haven. Just last week, an attack on New Magincia was prevented before it could form as a cohesive threat.

Rumor has it that Balinor is presently seeking to consolidate his power by eliminating all 'diluted,' sub-daemon members of the Conclave before grinding Britannia beneath his cloven hoof.

When approached for a comment, Chancellor DaKaren of theHigh Council of Britannia had this to say,

Chancellor DaKaren"The High Council of Britannia is aware of the Conclave's renewed aggressive posturing and views them as an imminent threat to public safety. As always, the Britannian Armed Forces stand ready to assist the Crown in the defense of the realm. While we hope for a diplomatic détente with the Conclave leadership, we must be prepared to stridently protect our way of life.

At this time, the Council cautions citizens against traveling near known daemon territories and to report any daemonic activity to their local authorities immediately."

Stay safe, Britannia!

Clue: Who, Where, and What

Originally posted March 5th, 2014 by EM Elizabella on the Great Lakes EM Site:

Lady Lilac, in the Study, with the Explosion Potion.

Contessa Cadavera danced in the Ballroom between seven and eight o’clock, as did Lady Lilac. Between eight and eight-thirty, Lady Lilac played the harpsichord in the Music Room, as witnessed by Lord Saffron. Lady Lilac then got Lord Saffron out of the Music Room by claiming she had to tune the harpsichord. Lord Saffron went into the Library and settled down in a comfy chair.

Between eight-thirty and nine, Contessa Cadavera walked into the Library to get some papers and said she was going to lock herself in the Study to write a letter*. She was heard and seen by Professor Snow, Captain Cobalt, and, to a lesser extent, a somnolent Lord Saffron. There was a secret passage between the Music Room and the Study. Lady Lilac went through the passage and threw the explosion potion at Contessa Cadavera. The contessa and her letter were both blown to bits. The contessa’s orange citrine ring** landed at Lady Lilac’s feet. Lady Lilac had once demanded the ring as part of the payments for her silence. Contessa Cadavera had refusing, saying she would “part with this ring over my dead body.” Lady Lilac scornfully threw the ring into the Study fireplace.

Lady Lilac has confessed to the murder and given the Royal Guard full details. A reporter at the scene of the arrest heard Lady Lilac’s confession, which ended with, “It was almost the perfect crime. I plotted it so carefully. Ah well, as they say, most of the fun is in the planning.”

Acting upon information from several citizens, the Royal Guard has also attempted to arrest the seven other suspects for blackmail. Sir Burgundy has confessed and will receive a light sentence. Professor Snow and Lord Saffron are in custody. Captain Cobalt, Madame Sable, and Mr. Mint have disappeared. Nanny Flamingo was seen to fly away, singing about kites and sprinkling rock hard peppermints on innocent bystanders.

*This would have been the letter to the Royal Guard, to report that all her guests had been blackmailing her.
**Contessa Cadavera was not an overly sentimental—nor even a nice—person. However, the little ring had been a gift from her impoverished parents and she treasured it, even to the extent of refusing an engagement ring from either of her husbands***.
***Because no one in Britannia wears more than one ring. It’s just not the done thing, dear.

BMV Tiderunner Sank Off Coast of Jhelom! Citizens In a Panic!

Submitted by Vivian_Fellows on March 5, 2014 at 7:15 PM CST
City of Jhelom

News from Jhelom. The BMV Tiderunner was intercepted and sank by an unknown band of pirates off the coast of the largest Valorian Isle in plain sight of the citizenry. Sailors contracted by the Vesper Shipping Co. to return the previously impounded ship to Vesper were overwhelmed by cannon fire and arrows. Wounded and facing superior firepower, they retreated from the ship to the shore and into the city. Cheers sprang from the pirates as no other ship showed to challenge them. They eagerly plundered what was left in the hold before the ship went down.

One of the contractors, his identity obscured by his hood, demanded double payment for what was considered a death trap. With the crew claiming injuries, the representative for the company was forced into providing hazard pay because of the conflict with the pirates and a payout of 200,000 gold each was distributed to the contractors to settle all disputes and possible court action.

We caught up with Thomas, now a former representative of the Vesper Shipping Co. who gave this statement:

Since I am no longer with the shipping company I am not bound to keep quiet. This mission was originally supposed to be a simple return to origin of the seized vessel. Any captain is wise enough to avoid a route around the pirate infested southern seas and rather head towards Verity Isle. Then the plans were changed at the last moment. I received word that the non perishable cargo for Jhelom and Trinsic were to be delivered. I was also told not to make the Governor or Port Authority of Skara Brae aware of this. The tensions in the area are not lost on anyone, our ship was shadowed by a fishing vessel from Skara Brae until we were closer to the Valorian Seas. From this moment on, I agree, this mission was a death wish. The fact all aboard managed to survive in the end is a blessing of the virtues.

We also interviewed a local who watched the entire battle unfold from the shore.

It was a horrific, and at the same time amazing, sight. At first we saw the Tiderunner appear on the horizon. She appeared to be slightly damaged, it looked like grapeshot had shot much of her sails. We thought she was alone and making for the harbor for repairs. Then we saw her, another ship closing fast behind her. She was close to shore when she came into range of the pursuer's guns. The Tiderunner gave as good as she got, but she was already damaged and obviously taking on water with how low she was riding. In the end, the battle got close enough to us that I could hear the captain give the call to abandon ship. The crew swam ashore and many were visibly wounded. In anger, many scrambled after the captain into the city. The pirates seemed to get a large deal of the cargo before she went down. This is getting out of control. Pirates are getting bold enough to attack right off our shore and no ship from our King's royal navy dares to respond. I've already heard of some citizen relocating from the outer isles to the main isle. Some of the main islanders have already fled through the moongate leaving considerable holdings unguarded.

With issues spiraling out of control in the region, let us hope either the King or Council intervenes soon.
