Gilforn’s Notes

Corrupted GateGilforn’s Notes
By Gilforn

I present my notes on moongates, moonstones, and facet magic. Hopefully, my research here will in time make the text of my books obsolete. Knowledge changes, but wisdom is forever.

Our stories and lore are filled with stories of gates to other places, such as the Time of Legends. The histories concerning the stranger’s gate and the facet Minax strikes from confirm that other worlds or facets exist. Nystul’s Trammel need not be the end of our journey.

Dupre’s gleaming platemail was scarred and battered as he approached the walled sandstone city, great strips of it ripped away by the attacks of the vicious mechanical beasts. He’d left too many men, elves, and gargoyles dead in the final struggle to rid them of the foul beast Exodus…and despite Sacrifice being a virtue, he wondered if it hadn’t taken more than its share this time. And why did it seem that those younger, faster, and stronger than he were so oft chosen while Sacrifice had merely passed him by all these years? Or maybe these others in some way had acted as a shield for him, preserving his existence by purchasing it with their own. Or perhaps his vow of Honor to defeat Minax was all that held Sacrifice at bay. He shook his head as he passed through the gates of the city of Honor, but he couldn’t shake off his uncertainty. The events at the moongate had only served to reinforce his unsteadiness; He’d intended to immediately return to Felucca and his hunt for Minax, but if the moongates were corrupted in such a way, could it possibly be an infection like the gargoyles were even now still facing in Ter Mur? And if so, would it spread to the rest of Gilforn’s gates, or even to those temporary ones conjured by so many mages of the realm? Give me a beast, a monster, a man who I can fight with a sword and shield, and I’ll cause them to quake, he thought…but I have no recourse against an enemy I can’t face. Turning these thoughts aside, he strode into the armorsmiths and handed over his large, heavy shield, to which the smith could only shake his head. It was yet another shield that had given its life to prolong his. He looked over the copy of the journal he’d found…and he wondered if he hadn’t been wrong about the man who had once so often held court with his Lord.

Homeowners On Alert

Yew homeowners are up in arms following a scam where several families were hustled from their homes while colleagues with picks and shovels tore up kitchens and living rooms, leaving all in disarray before departing. The Yew Times has been asked by authorities to keep the public informed of parties posing as officials associated with a non-existing agency calling itself the Bureau of Building Foundation Structural Integrity. According to accounts, a number of disheveled characters bullied themselves into the households of several Yew citizens insistent upon checking the buildings' supports. The culprits are believed to be treasure hunters with a poor sense of direction and questionable map reading skills. Should you be confronted by such persons pitching a story of corpser roots digging into your home's foundation, you are advised to report the incident to local law enforcement, so that proper action may be taken.

Festival of Masks

Submitted by Martyna_Zmuir on June 15, 2012 at 2:48 AM CDT

Festival of Masks

In Nujel’m, some months ago, a magical fire engulfed the royal vaults. It destroyed priceless flying carpets, melted untouched old lamps, and reduced to ash the jewel box of the blood-red Eye of Dahsk. As his sorcerers recovered from the fierce firefight, the Sultan strained for a glimpse of what remained of his treasures. He could not resist stepping into the vault and going to the Eye of Dahsk’s pedestal. At a touch, the ashes fell away, revealing the gem, now a shimmering blue, the shade of the Nujel’m sky on a clear day.

The Sultan of Nujel’m invites all to his island for the annual Festival of Masks. This will be a lighthearted street party with food, drinks, and shameless thievery. Please wear a mask and pretend not to recognize anyone else who is wearing a mask.

“The Game” will be played. The goal is to figure out who in Nujel’m has the Eye of Dahsk. Then steal the gem and return it to the sultan. The name of the first to return the Eye of Dahsk to the sultan will be displayed on a suitable item at the Felucca Award Hall. To steal the jewel, your character must be a member of the Thieves’ Guild.

This year the Sultan has another request of the assembled thieves. He has made a deal with Sir Dupre, pro tem Commander of the Royal Guard. It will be announced in the (Felucca) Nujel’m throneroom on Saturday, June 16, at 8:00 p.m. CDT.

You can recall or sail to Nujel’m for the Festival of Masks and The Game. There will also be a gate from a few steps southwest of the Felucca Britain Moongate directly into Nujel’m, a guard zone.

Britannian Armed Forces

From the desk of Grand Marshal Galen Knighthawke:

Saturday, June 16, the High Council's militia, known as the Britannian Armed Forces (B.A.F.), will host another fundraiser for the poor of our realm. Previous fundraisers have been very successful; many have been fed by our efforts.

Meet at 7pm Central/8pm Eastern, on Saturday, 16 June 2012, at the Trinsic Moongate in Trammel.

We may dig up buried pirate treasure, we may do something else. We shall see. Those who wish to go to the fundraiser and the Festival of Masks later that night are welcome. We will try and keep track of time so you do not miss the Festival.

-Galen Knighthawke
Grand Marshal of Virtue,
Ministry of Britannian Armed Forces

“Now, charge its left flank, and aim for the seams! Mages, lightning and energy bolts, but focus on keeping up our knights!” Dupre shouted out the orders from behind his plated helm, even as his cadre of knights swarmed one of the monstrosities that laired within Exodus dungeon. With the backup of the mages keeping them healed, they weren’t in any threat at the moment from the beast in front of them. Lord Dupre had heard the noises and gotten glimpses of things from inside what was left of Ver Lor Reg and it caused him quite a bit of worry. He’d been trying to devise tactics so that they could retake the city, but the creatures resisted quite a bit of force, and seemed to give up little in areas of weakness save for how well lightning worked against them. As he observed the knights, a noise from behind caught his attention, and he whirled while he drew the longsword at his side and lunged. His blade bit harshly into the seam of the floating menace, and he smashed it in harder by hammering the hilt with his plated gauntlet. With a squealing shriek of metal, the creature’s internal mechanisms chewed themselves to pieces on his sword before he drew it out and turned away, the creature exploding and peppering his armor with light shrapnel. He slashed the grease and oil clinging to his blade onto the floor of the dungeon as his knights finished slaying the much larger creature, and they retreated from the dungeon once more.
