GL High Council

Due the Assembly of Lords and Guilds refusal to aid the City of Skara Brae fend off an attack by the "Independent" City of Jhelom, the High Council of Britannia took the drastic action of charging Lord Kendal of Britain with a long list of crimes.

For those who do not know, Lord Kendal is the leader of the Assembly of Lords and Guilds - an organization which assumed control of the Kingdom after the untimely death of Queen Dawn. Lord Kendal is the author of the Assembly's "Britannian Order & Decency Act" which not only criminalized the actions of the Ministry of Security, but decommissioned the organization as well.

The text of the warrant is as follows:

Warrant for Lord Kendal of Britain

 “Sir?”

“Er…Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts. Are you Ter-Val of the Royal City?”

“Ter-Val is this one’s name, yes. This one is to be your guide to the road that leads to the sick camp, but no further. It is good that you are armed…the area is not without its dangers. It is this one’s great sorrow that this one cannot escort you into the city, but this one has strict orders from Queen Zhah.”

Dupre gave Ter-Val a curt nod as he gestured ahead. “Let’s get going then. The sooner I can see this healer the sooner I can lay my suspicions to rest.”

No further conversation was needed between the two soldiers. The noise of armor, footsteps, and wings were the only thing to punctuate their journey until they had reached the road leading to the camp. Ter-Val paused as he prepared to head back to the Royal City,

“You will find the camp further along this road; the sliths and wolves sometimes wander along it, it would be wise to keep your sword at the ready. This one apologizes once again for this one’s inability to escort you further.”

Dupre waved it away, and gave the gargoyle a smile. “It is a soldier’s job to follow orders, and I could no more hold you any ill will than I would expect of my men who follow their orders. Go with no worries.”

The sound of the fading wingbeats of the returning gargoyle was eclipsed by one that Dupre was far more familiar with as he drew his sword. It shouldn’t take long to reach the camp, regardless of what might lie in his path.

BNNOUTRAGE IN JHELOM
Staff Reports

Lord Kendal’s diplomatic visit to Jhelom did not begin auspiciously. Kendal told his welcoming delegation, “I didn’t come here for my health. I can think of other ways of enjoying myself.” He then asked, “Aren’t most of you descended from pirates?”

On a tour of the city, Kendal shared more of his thoughts:

  • Of the library: “Jhelom has a library? Whatever for?”
  • Of the performing arts center: “It’s a vast waste of space.”
  • On meeting a Britain-born Jhelom woman: “You can’t have been here too long, you still look like a woman.”
  • On visiting Jhelom’s graveyard, “I guess not ALL your warriors do so well.”
  • Of the tropical northwestern Jhelom island: “This is what I thought the entire town would look like.”

Kendal did show some sympathy for his hosts. “We have that problem in Britain too,” he said of Jhelom’s protestors. “The peasants were saying they wanted more leisure time. Now they’re complaining they’re unemployed.”

It is a mystery how Kendal came to be chosen for the mission, particularly in light of his comment at a Merchants’ Guild meeting last year: “People think there’s a rigid class system in Britain, but dukes have been known to marry whores. Some have even married girls from Jhelom.”

Lord Kendal is expected to offer his apologies this evening, at a meeting with Jhelom’s military leadership.

Summer Games Draws Crowds

The crowds are gathered for the spectacle called the Britannian Summer Games. This year's sponsors of the games is Serpent Cross Frozen Tavern Treats, all your 80 proof favorites on a stick to beat the summer heat. Athletes are present from all eight major cities along with participants from the Royal City in Ter Mur, so we expect some fine competition this year. The event took off with a bit of an upset, when the torch runner disappeared en route and was never seen again. The torch however did show up on a Luna vendor priced at 50 million gold. Despite the delay, the fans are very geared up this year. Vas Mag-Dig of the Royal City took the gold at thumb wrestling; a real spoiler for the gargoyle haters out there, and there's sure to be some agitation amongst the fans when the time comes for the jumping events. In the corral potion toss, Lady Lagfest of Minoc scored a gold with a record 12 sheep taken out by a single purple potion; a top record to be sure. The Boozeball event is being postponed until later in the games due to players suffering extreme dehydration during the practice sessions. The red-baiting event was recently concluded with Duke Sandwichpress of Yew drawing in 8 murderers to the Felucca Yew moongate with 7 successful guardwacks. This is some of the best taunting seen in this event. The competition was unable to ramp up their atagonizing to draw in the fence-sitters, and Sandwichpress takes the gold. Sofandra of Moonglow received a postumous silver for her effort, with Neb of Jhelom trailing with a bronze.

City of Yew

From the desk of Baron Polynikes of Yew, B.A.F. Field Marshal:

Good news for the citizens of Yew. A shipment of food is set for arrival near the Yew Abbey on the evening of Wed. Aug 15th at 8pm cst.

A merchant Captain Sayyida al-Hurra has contacted us and promised to have a shipload of food ready to offload at the Yew Abbey. I am directing all available B.A.F. members to muster at the Yew Abbey at 8pm cst to provide security. The continued raids by the viking marauders are a concern. Any citizen with a pack animal is requested to come lend a hand. We will be transporting the food to the new farm complex north of the Armory.

B.A.F. Training will be held after the ship is unloaded. B.A.F. members should come prepared for training and a possible patrol. Training will begin at 9 pm cst at the Yew Abbey. After training is concluded refreshments will be provided by Yeoman Bristlebane from his new distillery.

Food distribution for needy citizens will continue to take place at the Yew Militia Armory til further notice.

It had been quite some time since the man had awoken, before the machine bothered to address him. And when it finally did, it came with such suddenness that the man would have likely lost his balance had he been standing…as it was, it threw him from a reverie of meditation into an already foul mood as soon as it started.

“Congratulations are in order for you I suppose, Lord Blackthorn.” His title was thrown at him in a mechanic approximation of contempt and dissatisfaction…one that Lord Blackthorn found surprisingly well imitated.

“Are they? I was personally rather frustrated with myself for not having yet found a way out of this strange place…but to hear you here does give me a slight sense of satisfaction. I can tell from the sound that you are actually here…though how you’ve concealed yourself during my attempts at exploration are beyond my fathoming. I don’t suppose you’d care to enlighten me, Exodus?” Blackthorn managed to put on an air of feigned indifference with ease. He was a nobleman after all.

Fabled 'The Grotto' Reopens!

The Grotto

From the pen of Tanda Kristensen-DeWitt-McLeod-Adkins:

The sisters Kristensen wish to announce to all that “The Pub” formerly located on Artic or Dagger Isle has been relocated. Once again the lively red heads have come home to Minoc.
The pub is now once again “The Grotto” though it can never quite be what it was in years gone by; you can look forward to true Minocian hospitality.

With a banquet hall, larger kitchen, plenty of seating there will be bountiful supplies of ale and spirits. A tasty and tempting array of home cooked food including some of the best Haggis in the realm, lamb or mutton as well as pies and other goodies will be prepared daily and served with a warm smile by a curvaceous staff.

So come hoist a pint, enjoy a meal or tell a tale of bravery and courage.

Strength and Honor, Huzzah!
Merry Meet, Merry Part and Blessed Be

Enhanced Client Class

UORPC.NET

Our first class got prempted by spontaneous RP and has been resceduled:

Since many in the GLRPC are now using the Enhanced Client, or are attempting to, those of us who have been using it for a long time would like to help the new adopters to get the most of the client. To this end, there will be an in-game EC class (with moderated instruction in Ventrilo) on Friday, August 10th at 8pm CDT. Meet in-game at the Library of Sosaria/Nameless Rune banner (directly south of the Yew moongate in Trammel, 70o 14'N, 40o 17'W).

To effectively participate in this class, you will need to have previously installed the EC as well as Pinco’s UI (installing/patching this UI may take several hours and should be accomplished several days in advance). Please see my forum post for further information and links to videos and Pinco’s user gudes.

Class attendance is growing quickly, with around 25 participants (plays both in and out of the RP community) planning to attend.  If you cannot make it, we are likely to repeate the class again before moving on to more advanced topics.  (Vent will most likely be recorded for those who cannot attend.)

Lord DaKaren
